Sports Coverage Begins

Alive Radio’s sports coverage starts today, with the results round-up at 5pm. All today’s local scores plus interviews and report of the Queen of the South v Ross County game at Palmerston.

Jambalaya

This is a Louisiana Creole dish of Spanish and French origin; here’s a Cajun version of the dish.
A classic one pot meal
*this recipe will serve 4 people

1 large onion
2 sticks celery
1 large green pepper
6 oz belly pork or a piece of boneless skinless pork
1 large chicken breast
8 oz smoked sausage (you can use a spicy version if you like it hot)
2 oz frozen garden peas
1 small can sweet corn
10 oz long grain rice
Chicken stock
Cajun spice , (Schwartz do a spice mix available in supermarket)
Olive oil

Iain Renicks trained as a chef at Dumfries and Galloway College and has worked in many hotels in the area and with the Ladbroke group, he now works as Bakery manager with his family butchery firm in Thornhill. he has many cooking demonstrations around the area, Iain has also won many awards in the Scotch Pie world championship.

What does the training programme involve?
You will need to commit to an 8 week training programme of 2 days per week commencing end of October 2009 with training completing the week before Christmas ready to start work in January 2010.

It will give you basic care skills including:
• First Aid
• Moving and handling
• Food Hygiene
• Helping with Medicines
• Communication Skills

Attendance will not affect benefits as this will be less than 16 hours a week.

Training will be held in the Lincluden Community Centre, in North West Dumfries.

Don’t worry if you haven’t had any training for a long time, or even if you have difficulty filling in forms – this training will be suited to YOU and you will receive all the help you need.

If you were trying to listen to Alive Radio on line or on air yesterday, you will have noticed we were experiencing some serious difficulties after 3pm and no live shows were presented.

All has now been restored and normal service has been resumed.

major blaze in nithsdale

firefighters from thornhill and sanquhar last night fought a major blaze at dalveen farm 5 miles north of carronbridge on the A702
the blaze started around 16.30 and D&G fire and rescue fought the fire for over 4 hours , investigations into the cause are being carried out .

Area gains new sports facility

this weekend sees the official opening of Burntkettle Shooting Ground near Auldgirth
and is seen a s a major boost to the popular sport of Clay pigeon shooting .
The ground now recognised as one of the major venues in Scotland is holding an open day on Sat 3rd at the ground which is signposted from the A76 at Auldgirth.
Everyone is welcome to come along and try the sport .
