It was a lovely Tuesday evening for football and 1183 had taken the opportunity to enjoy this game at Palmerstone instead of watching it on TV.

Before the game Queens manager Kenny Brannigan was interviewed and revealed he had been offered the manager’s job on a permanent basis. He has been given a contract until the end of next season.

Queens started the game with the same line up as in our 3-0 win over Raith Rovers on Saturday.

It was a quiet opening to the game, after 3 minutes David Lilley got booked for a challenge from behind. Queens were soon to struggle with injuries, as after 17 min Stuart Kettlwell stood on Paul Burns ankle. Burns was not able to continue and was replaced by Joe Hamill shortly after. It was announced late on Tuesday night (20th April),  that Queens chairman offered Brannigan the queens job for next season and he duly accepted. After 8 games in charge as a caretaker boss he has 4 wins 3 draws and only 1 defeat, so it is well deserved that he has been given the job of trying to get Queens promoted next season.

Well done Kenny and good luck for the last few games of this season and the next one!!

UK Airspace Ban Extended To 1pm Sunday

A restriction on flights in and out of the UK has been extended until at least 1pm Sunday due to the volcano ash cloud drifting from Iceland.

Forecasters said there is no sign that a change in wind direction will clear British airspace of the cloud of ash.

The National Air Traffic Service said airlines would continue to be subject to restrictions for as long as ash billows into UK airspace.

And Britain’s air travel nightmare shows no signs of ending as meteorologists said the wind could keep the ash cloud over Europe for up to five days.

The ash will continue to be directed towards Britain and Scandinavia, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

All flights to British airspace have been suspended after ash caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland forced air traffic controllers to restrict takeoffs and landings.
Hundreds of flights have already been cancelled, and airports in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland shut down, with the ash cloud forecast to spread southward towards London, causing more disruption.

Air traffic controllers in Brussels in charge of strategic management of flights across Europe have issued warnings to pilots that all UK airspace is closed for incoming flights until further notice and London airspace will be completely closed between 11am and at least 7pm.
The disruption could go on for some time,” said Dr Steve Bond, lecturuer in aircraft operations at City University London. “It depends on how long the eruption goes on for and weather conditions.

History of Annandale and Eskdale Business

The Annan Museum is asking for photographs, publicity material or paintings of Annandale and Eskdale businesses from the last 200 years(including up to the present day).

In particular we would be very interested in images of the employees of shops and manufacturers around the area. Perhaps it is a Christmas party or a float in a Common Riding parade or even a shot of the shop front. The only criteria should be that the business is locally owned. The images will form part of the museum exhibition which celebrates the community spirit and forward thinking of the Rev. Henry Duncan.

The exhibition starts on the 8 May, so please get your images in quickly. Digital images can be sent as jpegs to annera@dumgal.gov.uk.
