The showcase event includes competitions from photography to home baking, floral art to crocheting.

The show is open to the public and the ladies of the SWRI are hoping to have lots of visitors attending and give them an insight into the many and varied activities in which they take part and hopefully encourage new members to come along to the many institutes that are located throughout our area.

The SWRI provides lots of opportunities to get involved: attend classes in crafts, go to cookery demonstrations, go to summer school, join a drama group, sing in a choir, take part in sport, go on a study tour at home or abroad, debate local issues, organise events or simply enjoy the friendship of fellow members at the monthly meeting. If you require any information on the SWRI contact www.swri.org.uk

Doors are open Friday; 5pm until 9pm and Saturday; 10am until 4.30pm with trophy presentations at 2.00pm.

Rolf Buvert & Sandra WatsonThe Dumfries Fairtrade group is looking forward to the Fairer World Fair to be held at St George’s Church Hall, George St., Dumfries on Saturday 6th November.

The Fairer World Fair will feature at least 9 stalls from local fair-traders, selling a range of products from chocolate to jewellery, and from rice to bags. All the products are ethically sourced and produced from developing countries and provide the producer with a fair price for their goods.

Sandra Watson of the Dumfries Fairtrade group said, ‘This is a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. There will be games and quizzes – including a giant snakes and ladders game. For refreshments there will be Fair trade Café serving soup and homebaking – using local and Fairtrade products where possible. There will also be information about the Dumfries Fairtrade Campaign and help and inspiration for schools, businesses and anyone that want to get involved in making Dumfries a Fairtrade Town’.

The Fairer World Fair runs from 10am – 3pm and admission is free. For further information please visit www.dumfriesfairtrade.org.uk
