Game off – QoS v Cowdenbeath this Sunday

Queen of the South’s game away to Cowdenbeath on Sunday has been postponed due to pitch still being frozen. Covers are going down at Palmerston Friday to try and ensure saturdays cup game going ahead if Annan and Brechin get their replay played this week. If it is game on Saturday Queens need all the support they can get as they are struggling with finances due to no home games for 8 weeks. Please come and support you’re local team the rest of this season to ensure continued full time football for Queen of The South.

Saturday sports show will be on as normal on Saturday 14.30- 17.30 with mostly English games being on and some SPL games.

No Late Show tonight

Apologies if you’re wondering what happened to the Late Show, with Michael Greaves-Mackintosh tonight. Unfortunately Michael is ill and cannot host the show, but he will be back next week as normal all being well.

A76 reopened

Police now confirm that the A76 road north of Sanquhar at Crawick Bridge, in Dumfries and Galloway has been reopened. Diversions are no longer in place.

A film shot on Christmas Eve, of the River Nith in and near Dumfries, Scotland. The footage, from David Slater, shows the Nith transforming from a peaceful flowing river, to a deluge of ice in just a few minutes.

The heavily used Summerhill centre will be closed until further notice, according to Chick Mckenna, from the Summerhilll Centre Hall Management Committee.

Chick explains that severe damage was caused during the extreme weather conditions and all groups will be unable to use the centre until remedial works have been carried out.

An inspection is to be carried out tomorrow (Wed 30th Dec) to determine what needs to be done.

Ceilings are down in the main hall, entrance foyer and office. Water and electric supplies to the centre cannot be used. Extensive repairs will require to be carried out and the Management Committee apologies for the inconvenience to all users of the centre.

Scottish WaterScottish Water says it is continuing to deploy all its resources in its callcentre and in the field to deal with the effects of the extreme weather on the water infrastructure.

The water utility is keeping customers informed through their website and has deployed extra call-centre staff to answer customer calls.

Yesterday (27th December) Scottish Water’s callcentre took over 7,000 calls in a 24-hour period – and around 75% of the calls are customers seeking advice on internal burst or frozen pipes in their homes or business.

Scottish Water is helping out by pointing customers towards www.scottishwater.co.uk/warmpipes where customers can watch videos that detail how to protect internal pipes and also how to locate their nearest plumber for internal repairs. Customers can also help by reporting visible bursts in the public network directly to our Customer Helpline on 0845 601 8855. Read the rest of this entry

Dealing with Burst Pipes

Burst PipeScotland is experiencing major issues with bust pipes, as the thaw continues. So far it seems the story in Dumfries is not as serious as in some other parts of the country, but Scottish Water tell us that there are a few cases of burst water mains ocurring in the county.

However there will be a lot of properties with internal bursts and Scottish Water have established a web page with lots of useful videos and information: www.scottishwater.co.uk/warmpipes.
