My son, Dan was at the Emirates Stadium in London today, for the Scotland Brazil friendly. Disaapointed by the result (2:0 to Brazil) he was nevertheless thrilled to see a Queen of the South flag! It looks like some Scotland fans from Dalbeattie took the opportunity to show their twin allegiance to our local club, draping the flag over the railings.
Well done Dalbeattie Queens supporters!

Family Liaison Officers are now a vital part of any investigation into suspicious deaths, road traffic fatalities, and mass disasters. To honour the work done by Family Liaison Officers across the UK, each force was asked to nominate a Family Liaison Officer to meet HRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at their home in Clarence House, London.
Their Royal Highness’s hosted a reception at Clarence House for the Family Liaison Officers and Dumfries and Galloway’s representative was Constable Andrea Stewart. Andrea is the force’s longest serving Family Liaison Officer (FLO), having attended the first ever Family Liaison Course at the Scottish Police College in 1999. Since that time she has been involved in a number of homicide enquiries, suspicious deaths, and road fatalities, and has provided mutual aid to Grampian Police following the North Sea helicopter crash in April 2009.
Andrea has a wealth of experience in operational policing, but considers Family Liaison work to be the most rewarding aspect of her work as a police officer. Read the rest of this entry

Police are warning members of the public regarding Home Security Companies that utilise high-pressure sales techniques, who are currently phoning householders in the region to arrange to call at their homes under the auspices of providing Security advice.
Police have received a number of complaints from residents that after making an appointment to visit householders, sales people attend at their homes with the offer of a free burglar alarm and then attempt to sell a high priced burglar alarm monitoring service using highly persistent tactics to secure a sale.
It is concerning that during the call the salesperson employs scaremongering tactics to achieve the sale. They will claim that the alarms they sell have a direct link to the police – which is not the case. They also state that the particular area the householder lives in has unusually high crime rates, which is also false. Dumfries and Galloway has one of the lowest crime rates in the United Kingdom and rates have generally been falling for years. Furthermore, if the householder tries to call back the sales person’s number, it is proving virtually impossible to contact them. Read the rest of this entry
