Alan McLauchlan on Drivetime tonight …
Our very own presenter Alan McLauchlan has, himself, suffered the trauma of last night’s flooding in the region. His own business office on Brewery Street was waist deep in water by the middle of the night. All he could do is watch as the water seeped in through vents and ducts, even though his flood defences were up.
Despite all that, he’s been out and about, both through the night and today, talking to people afffected by the flooding in our area. Don’t miss his reports throughout drivetime today – 4pm -6pm.

Hi Mark or Alan
The manufacturer of the flood barrier is coming to Dumfries to meet with me Tuesday next. I have also film on how the barrir Is deployed. Ifirst saw the barrier on to-morrows world programme in the year 2000. The barrier wen on to win the most inovated product of the year. I would ask if you would interview the company about the barrier and how it saves many properties from flooding around our country. Unfortunately not Dumfries. If you want to contact me either by e mail or you can ring me on 07949675687.
Regards
David
Border use sme of my footage from time to time. Before they merged with Tyne Tees Ihad a url and used to upload a lot more video. Some of the flooding shots last week was me using their camera. Have a look on my channel as some video about Dumfries Xmas lights. Tell me what you think.

Hi Alan
The barrier system I have brought to Dumfries. I hope to have its manufacturer visit Dumfries next week. I have a video of the barrier if you would like to see it, as it would protect your premisses to.

i HAVE CAMPAIGNED FOR YEARS NOW TO SEE DUMFRIES REGENERATED AND THE RIVER CLEANED UP. IN 2000 IWATCHED A PROGRAMME ON THE BBC TOMORROWS WORLD, THEY DEMONSTRATED A PORTABLE FLOOD BARRIER THAT WENT ON TO WIN THE MOST INOVATED PRODUCT OF THE YEAR. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER I ARRANGED A LIVE DEMONSTRATION IN AUGUST 2000 THEN AGAIN IN NOVEMVER 2004, ALAS THIS COUNCIL DID NOT GIVE THE COMPANY THE TIME OF DAY. THE BARRIER IS WIDELY USED A HUNDRED METRES OF IT CAN BE DEPLOYED IN AROUND FORTY MINUTES AT A METRE HIGH. ALAS IT APPEARS TO FALL ON DEAF EARS. I ATTENDED THE FLOOD RECOVERY MEETING ON MONDAY NIGHT AT THE ICE BOWL. THERE WERE A GOOD NUMBER OF UPSET AND ANOYED PEOPLE THERE THAT HAD BEEN FLOODED OUT AND THIS TIME THEY WANT TO SEE ACTION NOT MORE WORDS. IF THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE SUPPORT THE TEMPORAY BARRIERS IT IS SURELY TIME TO TRIAL THEM IN DUMFRIES. ONE OF THE REASONS THE COUNCIL WONT USE THEM IS WHO WILL ERECT THEM AND WHO WILL TAKE THEM DOWN. THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE PT 89 MILLION POUNDS IN A POT IN SEPTEMBER 2004 for councils to draw up flood prevention plans. some councils did so and their flood defences are now completed. ALAS THIS COUNCIL NEVER PUT PEN TO PAPER. THE GRANT WAS 80% SO SAY TEN MILLION THEY WOULD HAVE RECEIVED 8 WITH ONLY TWO TO PAY.

Thanks, David – I’ve been looking at some of your work and it’s very interesting. Let’s work together. It was good to see ITV Border Lookaround using some of your flooding footage too. Great work – keep it up!
Dear Alan
We met recently during the flooding of the Whitesands Dumfries. I uploaded your interview with the Nithsdale manager for the council Robert Thom. You downloaded it to your web site. I have made another 2 about the xmas lights switch on, i wonder if they were of any interest.
Ihave a web site but i have just started it and it it is in its infancy i will give you it anyway.
Kind regards
Daviid
