Annandale and Eskdale children enjoy ‘Surf n Turf’
Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Annandale & Eskdale Sports Academy was on its travels again last week when another fully subscribed trip made a journey to Belhaven Bay, Dunbar on Scotland’s east coast.
30 children were joined by Scottish Surfing champion Josh Christopherson at the Coast2Coast Surfing school where children were taught the skills and jargon of surfing including the “Tube”, “Barrels”, “Cut Backs” and “White Water”. 10 year old James Marshall from Eastriggs said, “We had a great day and if it was not for the Sports Academy we would not get to try sports like this.” 10 year old Katie McCall from Langholm added, “I have been surfing before on holiday, but to be taught by the Scottish champion is amazing and I learned some new moves today.” These opportunities are made possible by the sponsorship and funding from EnergySolutions, Awards for All, the Annandale & Eskdale Area Committee and the Andrew Stevenson Foundation with prices heavily subsidised to make them fully inclusive.
Local children also had the chance to meet another Scottish International on Monday at Lockerbie Bowling Club. Coaches from the club were joined by Scottish International Iain McLean who joined a group of children at a green bowling coaching session on Monday morning. Iain has been in the Scottish team for 5 years and it is hoped his visit will act as a catalyst for children to continue bowling at the club.
