Presenters Archives

The Annan Museum is asking for photographs, publicity material or paintings of Annandale and Eskdale businesses from the last 200 years(including up to the present day).

In particular we would be very interested in images of the employees of shops and manufacturers around the area. Perhaps it is a Christmas party or a float in a Common Riding parade or even a shot of the shop front. The only criteria should be that the business is locally owned. The images will form part of the museum exhibition which celebrates the community spirit and forward thinking of the Rev. Henry Duncan.

The exhibition starts on the 8 May, so please get your images in quickly. Digital images can be sent as jpegs to annera@dumgal.gov.uk.

The Sound of the Sixties will feature an interview with Graham Knight of Marmalade (originally Dean Ford and the Gaylords). Marmalade were the first Scottish group to have a number one hit in Britain. Graham Knight is the only remaining member for the original group. Marlamade are best remembered today for their cover version of the Beatles ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-da’.

Find Me A Lookalike Gordon Brown

With just two months to go before the General Election, film-maker Alison Jackson hits the road in a desperate bid to find a stable of political lookalikes.

As the clock ticks towards May 6 she hunts for a Gordon Brown, a Peter Mandelson and Alistair Darling. Her whistle-stop tour of the country takes her to locations significant in each politicians political journey. For example: the industrial Scottish town of Kirkcaldy for Brown, the fishing port of Hartlepool and the night-clubs of Manchester for Mandelson; Loretto public school and a meeting of the Scottish socialist workers party for Darling. DANGEROUS ROAD CONDITIONS

Police warn that roads across Dumfries and Galloway are affected by the recent fall of snow and the subsequent overnight freezing conditions. Drivers are asked to take care on all roads in the region as they travel about. All roads are passable with care however some minor roads have been left with a covering of snow and ice making for dangerous driving conditions.

At 4.30pm on Friday Alan Mclauchlan will interview singer and guitarist Rob Halligan.

Rob has a reputation for his passionate live performance and his maverick approach to life. Considered by many as ‘one of the finest unsigned performers on the scene’, Rob’s song writing looks at life from an alternative perspective. 2009 will see the launch of Rob’s fourth CD, ‘Christians Brother’ recorded with Graeme Duffin (Wet Wet Wet) and produced by Sandy Jones (Wet Wet Wet) and featuring guest performances from Yvonne Lyon, Gareth Davies-Jones and Dave Lyon.

In the late 1990’s Rob started playing the local pub circuit with his band, Goldsmiths, delivering their own brand of indie-pop-rock. Their CD, IknowYouknow released in October 1999 won some excellent reviews. The band played some noteworthy venues including the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes and the Coventry Colloseum.

Rob’s life took a new direction after the death of his father in the terrorist events of 9/11 and this would be evident in his writing. His songs challenge faith, politics and complacency and are delivered with a rough spirituality, brutal honesty and tested to be true.

Heart for Haiti and Alive 107.3FM

Friday 12th February 7pm on Alive

From Cumbernauld near Glasgow to Plymouth on the South Coast, and across the nation on DAB, 9 Christian radio stations have united together to support a major event raising vital funds for family projects in Haiti.
Held at the Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, on February 12th, Heart For Haiti is a major music and worship event featuring bands Yfriday, BlushUK, Kev Whitmore and the Abundant Life Worship Team.
It was put together in just 48 hours in the wake of the devastation of the Haiti tragedy and all artists are supporting the event at their own expense. The evening will feature a presentation from Andy Hawthorne of The Message, who has just returned from witnessing the devastation in Haiti first hand, along with guests from the Compassion charity, a group who are already running in excess of 300 projects on the island.

Taking place from the heart of the nation, the event will be broadcast live to the four corners of the UK, as Christian radio stations have rallied to support this urgent cause.

It has been such a joy to see the unity and partnership that has emerged between the 9 Christian stations to get behind this initiative. There has been such a willingness from all stations to cancel their normal programming and to take the live broadcast. Together we are able to reach so many more people to tune in and engage with the evening, and we are hoping that many many of our listeners will donate to this serious need on the night.

The stations taking part include Christian community stations Alive Radio 107.3FM in Dumfries; Revival 100.8FM in Cumbernauld; Branch 101.8FM in Dewsbury; Hope 90.1FM in Bournemouth; Cross Rhythms Plymouth 96.3FM; Cross Rhythms Teesside 107.1FM and Cross Rhythms City Radio 101.8FM in Stoke-on-Trent. In addition national Christian Broadcasters UCB will take the broadcast across their nationwide DAB network, and satellite broadcasters TWR are promoting to their listeners to tune in to Cross Rhythms.

The goal on the night is to raise as much money as possible for the people and projects run by Compassion in Port au Prince, Haiti. As such the programme, hosted by Cross Rhythms, will be full of the best music, inspiring messages and interviews, plus regular invitations to donate by Text or credit card. The original goal was £20,000 but staggeringly that target looks set to be met even before the event takes place! We should be able to raise well above initial expectations. Wherever you live in the UK we encourage people to tune in to whichever is your local station, or if there isn’t one then online. Be a part of making a difference today, so that many can have a future tomorrow!”

Danny Gokey

Today Alive 107.3FM was privileged to be the first radio station in Europe to play Danny Gokey’s track ‘ My Best Days are Ahead of Me’.

Danny Gokey (born April 24, 1980) is an American singer and church music director from Milwaukee. He was the third place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol. After his placing on the show, Gokey signed to RCA Records Nashville as the beginning of a career in country music, releasing the single “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.”
On July 9, 2008, four weeks before he auditioned for American Idol, Gokey’s wife underwent routine surgery for congenital heart disease. It was her third surgery, but she died from complications.[8][10] The couple had been together for 12 years, and Gokey credited her for his success. Sophia was a fan of American Idol and encouraged Gokey to be a contestant, and Danny started a foundation in her name with some of her family members who are also musicians. The foundation includes a program to provide donated musical instruments to students.

Biography
Danny started singing with his family in church, but stated he would rather record mainstream music than perform solely contemporary Christian music. He has been the worship director at his church in Milwaukee, Faith Builders International Ministries, for several years. He is the fifth of six children. He has a brother, Charles, and four sisters. He has acknowledged the influence of Jeffrey and Robin Pruitt, the pastors of the church he works at and called his faith the “key to who I am.

Severe Weather Update

Severe Weather Update – 14.01.10 1600 hours
Dangers of frozen lochs
Dumfries and Galloway Police would like to remind the public of the dangers of using frozen lochs for leisure purposes. While we have had freezing conditions over the last few weeks the current thaw will reduce the thickness of ice making the safety of the ice extremely unpredictable. Dumfries and Galloway Police would like to appeal to the public to stay off the lochs both for their own safety and the safety of those who may attempt to rescue them should the ice give way beneath them.

Travel Conditions
Road conditions across Dumfries and Galloway remain challenging due to the current snow fall and continued patches of ice. Dumfries and Galloway police appreciate that motorists are, in general, heeding advice in terms of slowing down and taking care whilst driving, however a number of minor crashes across the region have occurred this morning. Wet and slippy snow is causing difficulties particularly on higher areas. Motorists are asked to remain totally aware of road conditions and drive according to the prevailing circumstances they find themselves in at any particular time. Anyone who has to travel should check their route for up to date information by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or by telephone on freephone 0800 028 1414 0800 028 1414 . All primary routes and the majority of secondary routes have been treated. We currently have enough salt and grit for approximately 8-9 days of normal operations on major routes and approximately 4-5 days if significant snowfall is experienced.

Neighbourhood Services personnel have continued to clear footways in towns and accesses to schools throughout today. Schools Six schools were closed in Dumfries and Galloway today, all of which are scheduled to reopen tomorrow morning (15th Jan). Look for up the most up to date information on school closures on www.dumgal.gov.uk This information is updated by head teachers and is the best source of up to date information. Alternatively, call 030 33 33 3000 030 33 33 3000 and the call centre staff will have access to this information.

Refuse Collection
If your household waste has not been collected on your scheduled collection date you may put side waste out for your next collection only. This waste does not have to be in Council refuse sacks. Welfare We are using our care for people networks to identify any vulnerable individuals that may require help at this time. Local groups and volunteers are encouraged to use their existing network of contacts to seek out individuals who may need help. This information can be gathered in a variety of ways e.g. ask about the wellbeing of neighbours and friends; ask about individuals absent from any groups, etc.

A Care of People Strategy has been developed and circulated to all Council Services to document issues and processes. If you have any serious concerns about the welfare of yourself or someone you know ring 030 33 33 3000 030 33 33 3000 . Your call will be passed to an appropriate service. Advice on how to deal with particular problems arising from the severe weather is available from Council and call centre.
