Last Tuesday’s Championship league match away to Dundee United was postponed due to the weather but the SPFL’s decision for the game to be rescheduled for this coming Tuesday has angered officials at the club. They issued the following statement earlier today:

“Queen of the South can confirm that we have been ordered to return to Dundee to play Dundee United this coming Tuesday March 6th to try again to play the game postponed last Tuesday. We can also confirm that as a club we are very disappointed with this decision and have made representations to both the SPFL and Dundee United.

“We accept the circumstances on Tuesday night were unfortunate and largely out of everyone’s control. However, having made a hazardous return trip on Tuesday, with the travel restrictions still in place around the country, most of the weekend’s football already postponed and continued forecasts of snow for the next seven days, we find the decision to insist on us making another lengthy trip on the immediate Tuesday ridiculous. In particular, having been informed of this decision this morning despite having already made our objections clear, having to make travel arrangements on three days notice is far from ideal and expecting supporters to arrange time off work to make a lengthy midweek trip on two working days notice is not fair on them either. Our players have been unable to meet for training so far this week since Monday and there are no guarantees of them being able to do so any time soon.

“Officials from both clubs discussed possible rearrangement dates on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and, although Dundee United were keen to go for an immediate rearrangement, we noted there were four other available midweeks between now and the end of the season, which left ample opportunity for a later rearrangement even allowing for the subsequent postponement of United’s match with St Mirren this evening. We cannot understand the need for this game to be immediately rearranged and note that, as far as we are aware, no other games postponed this week have been ordered to be rearranged immediately.
We are disappointed as a club that no account seems to be taken on this occasion by the governing body of the difficulties there may be in a 300 mile round trip in darkness and bad weather for both supporters and staff.”

News from our local football club, Queen of the South:

“Lloyds have been proud sponsors of Queen of the South in the Community for several years now and with our community events expanding, the team are being kept on the road throughout the region with the help of Lloyds who have also increased their contribution by becoming the man shirt sponsors for the Under 20 squad. Recently Stephen Marshall and Stuart Dalton from Lloyds Group presented Eddie Warwick and Dan Armstrong with a new Isuzu Jeep.

After receiving the keys Dan Armstrong said “The Club are extremely grateful to Lloyds for their continued support. They are one of many local businesses who make contributions, but having use of the Isuzu Jeep means that we can take our community programmes across Dumfries and Galloway. The clubs that we run along with our school programmes are growing in popularity and a very important part of what we provide throughout the region”. Under 20 Manager, Eddie Warwick added “The annual shirt draw for the first team squad raises a lot of money for the club which is great but the Under 20 squad also needs help and we are proud to have Lloyds as our main shirt sponsors. As current development league west champions we hope to continue to raise the profile of the team, the club and local business such as Lloyds”.”

QoS TrainingQueen of the South FC opened the Palmerston gates this morning for an open training session. With the schools on holiday, lots of kids and parents turned up to meet the squad and receive some football tips!

Our own intrepid sports reporter, Stig Nordkil was there too and recorded a couple of rather blustery interviews, courtesy of Ophelia! Apologies for the poor sound quality in the wind.
