Church opens its doors to lonely people on Christmas Day
The River of Life Church, at Dumfries Railway Station is inviting lonely people to come for Christmas dinner on the big day.
The Church has run a similar event over Christmas day in the past few years and have helped many people who would otherwise have a miserable Christmas.
There’s no charge for the meal, which is provided by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, with food items provided by individuals, local businesses (Iain Renicks butchers, Thornhill and M&S Dumfries) and the Church.
The meal starts at 1pm, but the Church has a Christmas morning service from 11am – 12noon which people are welcome to come to as well.
Pastor Mark Smith says, “We are so grateful to all the people who have made this possible (including Iain Renicks butchers, Thornhill and M&S Dumfries) and it’s really great that lonely, homeless and needy people have a place to go when it seems the whole world is having fun. We still have need of a few items; if anyone wants to donate to the meal, please do let us know on 01387 264646 or drop items into Kings Coffee and Books in Queensberry Street. We hope that lots of people will make use of this opportunity to have a great Christmas.”
