Police are warning of a computer scam which appears to have taken place in Thornhill on Sunday 30 May 2010. The caller intimated to the victim that they were calling from Microsoft and indicated that they were attempting to fix computers remotely which may have been corrupted by viruses. The caller asked the victim to go through a number of computer processes which then gave the caller remote access to the computer.

The details of bank account numbers were asked for, and given. The victim failed to pass on her date of birth which caused the caller to become abrupt with her and the call was terminated by the victim after becoming suspicious. On canceling her bank details, it seems that a sum of money had already been taken from the account. Once again the police warn of the dangers of giving any personal or account details out over the phone.
