Roads Policing Officers in Dumfries are gearing up to police a proposed ‘Cruise’ event in Dumfries on Sunday evening, 18 September 2011. “The event is to be held on the Whitesands in the town and at this stage it not known how many cars will turn up for the event” says Sergeant Billy Broatch of the Roads Policing Unit. “Cruises are not new things and we have been involved with them as far back as 2006 when we used to attend and give out advice to motorists on road safety, traffic law or just anything to do with driving really. Our attitude to Cruises is that we do understand that people who have an interest and passion for their cars want to get together to share experiences and information about their vehicles. We will however take a robust stance to any traffic violations or anti social behaviour that might take place. Our experience over the years is that the majority of those who attend do so because of their interest in cars.”
