DG One is looking for talented individuals who could be lifeguards of the future.

A nationally accredited 5-day course will be run in Dumfries from 14 to 20 October 2010. The course provides rigorous and comprehensive training leading to a Royal Life Saving Society’s National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and offers participants the opportunity to learn vital skills required to begin a career in the leisure industry. Once achieved, the qualification could enable holders to work as a lifeguard anywhere in the UK and many other countries, including Australia and the USA.

There are only 12 places available for applicants, who must be aged 16 or over. Candidates must all have a basic level of fitness, be competent swimmers, and be able to dive into and tread water. Intensive training takes place in and out of the water and includes emergency aquatic rescue, spinal cord injury management, pool supervision procedures, and first aid.

Ashley Smith, DG One’s depute manager, said, “”Lifeguard is a highly responsible job that can lead to some amazing opportunities to travel the world or develop a career in the leisure industry. Lifeguard training is a central part of life at DG One. Even the most experienced staff members are expected take formal training every week. I look forward to seeing some new skills being developed in our region.”

The course costs £175, which includes all assessment fees and course manuals.
