Dumfries Film Festival Shorts Competition
The Dumfries Film Festival is looking out for the best short films to showcase at its annual Film Festival which takes place this year between 30 April and 9 May.
The fourth Dumfries Film Festival is set to light up screens this Spring bringing a host of films, unique events and special guests to the region. This year the festival is spreading its wings and screening a huge range of films in 10 days in over 10 venues across the whole region.
The short film competition is open to everyone, all ages, amateurs and professionals, and we are looking for films that explore the theme ‘Living the Land – Life in the countryside of Dumfries and Galloway’. It will be a chance to see your work on the big screen – at Machars Movies, Scotland’s most southerly cinema, during the Dumfries Film Festival. The Scottish Countryside Alliance who recently awarded Machars Movies ‘Best UK Rural Enterprise 2009’, will also screen winning entries at the Royal Highland show in Edinburgh (24 – 27 June 2010). Each entrant will receive a pair of cinema tickets at their favourite cinema in Dumfries and Galloway, and the winning entry will receive a year’s supply of cinema tickets!
For application guidelines and entry forms, please visit www.rbcft.co.uk. The deadline for submissions is Monday 19th April 2010.
Mike Marshall who represents Machars Movies, and who has a career spanning over 40 years in programme-making about farming, food production and the countryside said: “Creating films is now within everyone’s grasp, thanks to superb digital camera technologies. It’s never been easier to explore our creative talents, and bring together pictures, writing, music, sound and many other skills. It doesn’t have to be Hollywood blockbuster style – sometimes the best programmes are based on a simple approach, stories that are told with imagination and sensitivity. Dumfries & Galloway’s countryside and coastlines are full of contrasts, and our theme ‘Living the Land’ provides plenty of opportunities to tell stories about how we live, work and enjoy ourselves in such a magnificent environment.”
The actual subject matter and style of films is left entirely to the entrants, and the competition’s selection team, all with many year’s experience in film and television, will be looking for those productions that will be form part of the special screenings in the fourth Dumfries Film Festival.
