Gracefield Craft Shop, Dumfries is delighted to be hosting a Focus exhibition of new work by Scottish ceramicist Wendy Kershaw. The exhibition opened at the Gracefield Arts Centre on the 22nd of May, as part of Craft Festival Scotland.

Etching into porcelain with needles, Wendy creates intricate narrative illustrations, a playful storytelling that is a rich mixture of bold composition and subtle detail. After three residencies in China, her work has expanded with greater use of colour and witty layering of decals.

Framed illustrated panels make up the majority of the exhibition, with some scenes inspired by poems from Tennyson and Keats.

Wendy received a 1st class degree in ceramics from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, went straight on to do a Masters degree at Cardiff and worked as artist in residence in schools for three years. She was artist in residence at Maxwelltown High for one year, 1998/99 and was then invited to participant in three further residencies in China, Jingdezhen, Shanghai and the FuLe International Ceramic Art Museums, and her work features in the permanent collections of two Chinese museums. Having worked as ceramics technician at the Glasgow School of Art for over a decade, Wendy continues to create her own lively and engaging work.

The exhibition will run until the Saturday the 26 June. The Craft Shop opening hours are Tuesday – Friday 10.30am -3.30pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm admission to Gracefield is free with easy access and parking.
