Actor Luke Pasqualino who plays Freddie in TV show Skins had fans screaming at him when he appeared on stage on the Saturday, before being inundated with massive queues at the autograph signing session.

Chief Inspector Alan Glendinning said, “As far as Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary is concerned the Youth Beatz event was a great success. The weather was kind and there were very few issues during the course of the night itself. The concert was well attended, and as one of the biggest events hosted in Dumfries in recent years, it’s testament to the planning that went into the event that it passed off so smoothly. There was a clear no alcohol policy and searches were conducted to ensure as far as possible no alcohol was brought into the event.”

Provost Jack Groom, Chair of Nithsdale Area Committee said, “The event was a great success attracting almost 12000 people over the two days. Events like this have an economic impact for Dumfries town centre and once again the community of Dumfries came out in force to support the biggest event in Nithsdale this year.”

The event was managed through a partnership led by the Council (Community Learning and Development Nithsdale), part funded by Nithsdale Area Committee and sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway College and Magnox North. Aimed at 12-25 year olds, Youth Beatz was designed for young people to have fun, take part and be better informed about relevant issues, services and opportunities and creating civic pride and a lasting legacy of young people being fully involved in their community.

After N-Dubz played, the audience enjoyed a fireworks display to close the Friday evening. There were also funfair rides, inflatables, street entertainers, 7 stanes display team, youth info marquee and a spectacular Wonderland area, which provided information and advice on issues affecting young people.

Senior Youth/Music development worker Paul Chisholm said, “N-Dubz are arguably the hottest band in the UK right now, so to get them to perform at Youth Beatz was a real coup. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and couldn’t have been any nicer, they even took the time to compliment a lot of the local acts performing on stage with them.”

Community Learning and Development Nithsdale would like to thank all partners involved in planning the event and hopefully look forward to building on the success in the future. To view pictures and comments on the event go to www.youthbeatz.co.uk and follow links.
