Police have named the man who was found dead in his home in Syme Road in Dumfries on 3rd May 2010, as 39 year old Sean O’Neill. Police also confirm that there would appear to be NO suspicious circumstances surrounding this death and the matter is being treated as unexplained at this stage.
A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal and a post mortem examination has been arranged.

Police in Dumfries are investigating the sudden and suspicious death of a 39 year old male, who was found within the dwelling house situated at 9 Syme Road, Dumfries, during the early hours of 03.05.2010.

The body of a woman who fell from her quad bike into a swollen burn has been found in a river in southern Scotland. A police statement confirmed that her body had been recovered in the River Nith at Carnsalloch on Thursday. The procurator fiscal has been informed. It is believed of Linda Weir, 58, was swept away by the fast flowing waters.

Dumfries Male Voice Choir is presenting a highlight of the year – a massive celebration concert in DG One, at the weekend. The choir appeals to all ages and consists of guys from across our region. Also performing, will be internationally acclaimed trio of tenors; “Caledon”, featuring Alan Beck, Ivan Sharpe, Jamie MacDougall.
The concert takes place on Friday 23rd April at 7:30pm. Tickets are available from the DG One box office (01387 243550), priced £12 (£8 for under 16s), they’re also available from any choir members.
New members are always welcomed – at the weekly practices, which take place in Dumfries Northwest Church, on Wednesdays at 7:15 – 9:15pm. Enquiries to Jim Kelly, on 01387 710386.

It was a lovely Tuesday evening for football and 1183 had taken the opportunity to enjoy this game at Palmerstone instead of watching it on TV.
Before the game Queens manager Kenny Brannigan was interviewed and revealed he had been offered the manager’s job on a permanent basis. He has been given a contract until the end of next season.
Queens started the game with the same line up as in our 3-0 win over Raith Rovers on Saturday.
It was a quiet opening to the game, after 3 minutes David Lilley got booked for a challenge from behind. Queens were soon to struggle with injuries, as after 17 min Stuart Kettlwell stood on Paul Burns ankle. Burns was not able to continue and was replaced by Joe Hamill shortly after. This weekend (Friday 16 April – Sunday 18 April 2010), Dumfries and Galloway Police were successful in seizing a substantial quantity of drugs and apprehending a number of individuals they believe to be involved in the supply and distribution of illegal drugs in Dumfries. Operation Brandy was an intelligence led operation into the supply of Class A drugs in the region. As a result of the intelligence held a number of warrants to search properties in Dumfries were granted and these searches were carried out over the weekend.
In all, some 20 houses were searched in Dumfries. As a result of these searches Class A drugs with a street value of over £30000 were recovered. Drugs included heroin and cannabis, cannabis resin and diazepam, as well as a substantial amount of cash. Read the rest of this entry

A restriction on flights in and out of the UK has been extended until at least 1pm Sunday due to the volcano ash cloud drifting from Iceland.
Forecasters said there is no sign that a change in wind direction will clear British airspace of the cloud of ash.
The National Air Traffic Service said airlines would continue to be subject to restrictions for as long as ash billows into UK airspace.
And Britain’s air travel nightmare shows no signs of ending as meteorologists said the wind could keep the ash cloud over Europe for up to five days.
The ash will continue to be directed towards Britain and Scandinavia, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

Friday 16th April Drivetime will feature an interview with The Soldiers, Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi.
The real-life ‘Soldiers’ released their debut album ‘Coming Home’ on 26th October 2009. Part of the album’s proceeds are planned to go directly to charities including Help For Heroes, the British Legion and the Army Benevolent Fund.
The show will also feature an interview with Julian Smith who took third place in Britain’s Got Talent 2009.

All flights to British airspace have been suspended after ash caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland forced air traffic controllers to restrict takeoffs and landings.
Hundreds of flights have already been cancelled, and airports in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland shut down, with the ash cloud forecast to spread southward towards London, causing more disruption.
Air traffic controllers in Brussels in charge of strategic management of flights across Europe have issued warnings to pilots that all UK airspace is closed for incoming flights until further notice and London airspace will be completely closed between 11am and at least 7pm.
The disruption could go on for some time,” said Dr Steve Bond, lecturuer in aircraft operations at City University London. “It depends on how long the eruption goes on for and weather conditions.
