Policing Wickerman Festival
Temporary Superintendent Stevie Carr of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary reports that in policing terms the festival went well again this year.
Speaking after the three day event at East Kirkcarswell near Dundrennan he said “the police operation at the Wickerman festival went very smoothly. The organisers and the police work very well together and the understanding of each others needs has built up over the nine years the festival has been running. The festival goers were well behaved and there were only a small number of arrests with three people appearing at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday morning all in relation to drink related public order and assault offences.
Four people are being reported for drug supply offences and 37 for possession of drugs offences. These figures compare with five and 42 respectively for last years event”.
“The atmosphere over the weekend was very good and although the weather closed in on Saturday it had no real effect on the way we policed the event. I would praise the public for the way they behaved over the weekend and we look forward to continuing policing the event next year on its tenth anniversary.”
