It was a lovely Tuesday evening for football and 1183 had taken the opportunity to enjoy this game at Palmerstone instead of watching it on TV.

Before the game Queens manager Kenny Brannigan was interviewed and revealed he had been offered the manager’s job on a permanent basis. He has been given a contract until the end of next season.

Queens started the game with the same line up as in our 3-0 win over Raith Rovers on Saturday.

It was a quiet opening to the game, after 3 minutes David Lilley got booked for a challenge from behind. Queens were soon to struggle with injuries, as after 17 min Stuart Kettlwell stood on Paul Burns ankle. Burns was not able to continue and was replaced by Joe Hamill shortly after.

Just after the half hour mark County had a good chance to take the lead, but a good block by Bob Harris followed by a great save by Hutton meant it was still goal less. At this point it was obvious that both Hutton and Derek Holmes was struggling with injuries, and the latter had to be replaced by Sean O’Connor after 34 min. As Holmes was taken off Jamie Adams was on the sideline getting treatment for an interview as well.

In the 37th min queens had a good chance as the ball fell to Roco Quinn after a cross, but his shot was well saved but the County goal keeper. As the half came to an end Jamie Adams got booked and Queens had a corner that came to nothing.

It was goal less at half time, not surprising with only two shots, one at either side. Only question mark was if Queens would be able to finish game with 11 men with all the injuries they had.

The second half started as the first half finished with few chances, Jamie Adams had a shot over the bar. |But it was all to change in the 54th min as Joe Hamill’s cross found Willie McLaren at the back post. His shot was palmed out by the keeper but it hit another County player and found it’s way into the net. 1-0 Queens.

Ross County had a shot in the 60th min but Hutton saved well. Jamie Adams was no longer able to play with his injury and was replaced by David Weatherston after 62 min. Shortly after Stuart Kettlewell headed the ball against the bar for County, a lucky escape for Queens. Queens went straight up the park, and a good cross from Hamill was headed just over the bar by Weatherston.

Roco Quinn had a good shot on target saved by the County keeper but he could only push it out, but unfortunately a County player reacted quickest to get the ball away. County had a shot on target shortly after but the ball was again well saved by Hutton.

With 10 min to go Queens got yet another injury as Willie McLaren hurt his wrist, but he managed to struggle on till the end. Jordan McMillan had a double chance towards the end but a block and a good save stopped him getting on the score sheet.

Not the most exciting of games but a win nevertheless for Queens. That’s 3 wins in a row now and Queens are up to third. Only 4 points behind Dundee with 3 games to go, so it is very possible to finish league in 2nd place.
