Mainly Jazz

Harry Thomson kick-starts your Monday night of cool with “Mainly Jazz” from 7pm.

Harry Thomson

Brought up in a house full of Dubliners, Clancy Brothers and, er, Al Jolson long-players, Harry’s first forays into music were decidely un-folk/world, as part of the legendary (in Kirkcudbright) post-punk outfit Zachariah Toadstool. Having returned to Galloway after a spell in the deep south, Harry dabbled in local folk sessions for the best part of fifteen years before joining up with Alan McClure as part of “indie folksters” The Geese, and later The Razorbills. He is involved in staging Gatehouse of Fleet’s Midsummer Music Festival and Mill Sessions, and can usually be found on a Thursday at the town’s Masonic Arms pub sessions, which mix folk with every other genre you can think of (and some you can’t).

  1. Cheers, George – it’s a lonely furrow, but hopefully we do the business!

  2. a great show and what a brilliant idea to interview Ben Bryden on his Glasgow Dreamer project and feature some Ivor Cutler tracks. Love the Ben tracks from The Flying Scot Suite (Rab Wilson’s poems, bicycle made in Glasgow?) and also the Robert Wyatt interpretation of Grass! And of course the truly great Ivor Cutler. I loved esp the second Ivor Cutler track – a bit of a gospel thing going on? Lovely interview with Ben.

  3. In Kirkcudbright. High Street mainly.

  4. Good to hear Mainly Jazz is still going strong! Great stuff1
