After Youth Beatz announced today that the headline act of Youth Beatz 2010 is N-Dubz, thousands of young people are expected to flock to Dock Park, Dumfries on July 31st (The date of Youth Beatz 2010 has now been changed to 16 and 17 July 2010) to attend what could be Scotland’s largest free music event.

Having kept the headline act a close secret, young people have been eagerly anticipating this announcement, guessing and debating on online platforms like Facebook about who it might be. Bringing an end to this speculation, Youth Beatz 2010 is delighted to confirm that they have secured N-Dubz as the headline act of this year’s event. N-Dubz will be one of the biggest acts to have ever played in Dumfries.

N-Dubz have had eight UK Top 40 singles, including a no.1, and two platinum selling albums. Their most recent UK tour was sold out, they are confirmed to headline a stage at Glastonbury 2010 and are also performing at T4 on the beach. N-Dubz have featured on a number of global brand advertising campaigns, most recently in Adidas commercials alongside David Beckham, Snoop Dogg and Noel Gallagher. N-Dubz have won Mobo and 02 Silver Clef Awards and have been nominated for Urban Music Awards and BRIT awards. On MySpace, N-Dubz front man Dappy was recently voted the pop star people would most like to be Prime Minister.

N-Dubz’s appearance at Youth Beatz 2010 is a once in a lifetime chance for young people to experience a performance from such a major act.

N-dubz said, “It is a great privilege to be performing at a show like this!! We love Scotland. The people always make us very welcome and we can’t wait to smash up the show!!! NA NA…”

Created by Dumfries and Galloway Council in partnership with and at the request of young people, the first Youth Beatz in 2009 attracted an audience of over 8,000. An interactive event for young people aged 12-25 to have fun, take part and be better informed about relevant issues, services and opportunities, Youth Beatz 2010 has been designed to be as much about socialising and experiencing major main stage acts, as it is aimed at creating civic pride and a lasting legacy of young people being fully involved in their community.

Provost of Dumfries Jack Groom said; “Youth Beatz 2010 is an opportunity for our whole community to show support of our young people, through engaging with them in an environment which they own and want to be in. Alongside providing information for young people which will help them access services and new opportunities, Youth Beatz 2010 is about young people enjoying themselves. Nithsdale Area Committee is delighted to be contributing to Youth Beatz, alongside commercial sponsorship.”

Alongside N-Dubz and other main stage performances, the event features activity-based entertainment, family attractions, dance and youth services information. Local musicians, community groups and a guest appearance by Freddie from TV show Skins will also feature.

In a recent survey*, ‘listening to music’ was chosen by over 75% of Dumfries & Galloway’s young people as their favourite way to spend their free time. Through securing N-Dubz as the headline act of Youth Beatz 2010, who were the no.1 target for the event organisers, young people can come along to watch a band that they respect and relate to – through issues raised in their songs. The event presents an opportunity for youth service providers in the Nithsdale area to engage with a diverse range of young people.

The event is managed through a partnership led by Community Learning and Development Nithsdale and is part funded by Nithsdale Area Committee. The main sponsors are Magnox North and Dumfries and Galloway College.
