Sulwath ConnectionsDumfries & Galloway Council’s Sulwath Connections has been running a year-long, seasonal photo competition called “In My View”. Now they need the public’s help to choose an overall winner.

Over 900 entries have been received in the twelve-month period. Photos have been entered by all ages and abilities and from right across the region, covering a wide variety of subject matter associated with the area.

“The whole competition is a wonderful record of a year in the life of Dumfries & Galloway”, said Ed Forrest, Sulwath Connections Project Manager. “There are incredible wildlife shots, great photos of people enjoying the outdoors and of course the weather – the floods in the Autumn last year, the ice and snow last winter and the coming of the Spring”.

The twelve winning entries chosen by the selection panel over the course of the last year are now available for viewing and for voting at the Sulwath Connections website. As part of the competition final the panel would like your help in selecting the overall winner who will be awarded a digital SLR camera, part sponsored by Jessops.

Its easy to vote, just go to www.sulwathconnections.org and follow the links to the ‘In My View’ competition. Here voters will see the winning photos and can then choose their favourite. People can vote for the photo which best captures the people, the wildlife or the landscapes that makes Dumfries and Galloway such a special place to live in and visit. Voting closes at midday on Thursday 30th August.

Everyone can also help promote Dumfries and Galloway to friends and family around the world by sending a favorite picture from the competition as an e-postcard? It’s free, it’s easy and a great way of letting people know what a fantastic place Dumfries and Galloway is.

Sulwath Connections would like to thank the Selection Panel who are: Keith Kirk, Countryside Ranger, Dumfries &Galloway Council and wildlife photographer; Andrea Thompson, Commissioning Editor, Dumfries & Galloway Life; and Rod Wheelans professional photographer, creative-camera. They have dedicated their time and expertise to select each group of seasonal winners over the last year.

‘In my View’ is one of the Sulwath Connections Landscape Projects (SCLP), a £3.9 million partnership project whose main source of funding is through Heritage Lottery Fund and Scottish Natural Heritage. It is hosted by Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) and is designed to celebrate and enhance the landscape and environment which helps to make Dumfries and Galloway such a special place.
